    Weep for Canada.

    Government institutes "Emergency Act"

    - Will compel tow-truck owner/operators to use their equipment and labour in order to enforce government directives on pain of fines or imprisonment.

    - Has directed all financial institutions to seize or suspend accounts SUSPECTED of involvement with these protests, and has shielded them from any civil liability for such acts.

    - That is combined with new regs on crowd-funding platforms that require them to provide information on donors (so those financial institutions know who's accounts to seize).

    - Will seize business accounts and cancel insurance of any trucks involved in the protest.

    - Regulation and prohibition of public assemblies, including the ability to select locations (such as Ottawa), where protests are prohibited.

So essentially: forced labour, punishment for free-association and freedom of thought, government decides where you have a right to protest.

Love or hate the truckers, this is a sad day for democracy, and the people's ability to speak truth to power.

    • Nope, none of that is true.zarkonite
    • the illusion of democracyMilan
    • Watch the governments own statements - this is the official press conference.monNom
    • I did, and I read what constitutional scholars had to comment. He literally said this does not change the right to assemble.zarkonite
    • Specifically, watch Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland's and Attourney General Dave Lametti's remarks.monNom
    • Most truckers are pissed at the protesters because they're tarnishing their name, there won't be any "compelling" of tow trucks, they'll be happy to chargezarkonite
    • government rates to tow people out. The account thing is just straight erroneous, the banks are allowed to temporarily stop servicing accounts they suspectzarkonite
    • might be doing illegal activities... that's far from a seizure. ETC.zarkonite
    • @57:35 - "Geographically Limited", "Where they are needed" - read that as "wherever we say".monNom

    • They = the emergency measures = not related to the right to assembly. You're making links that don't exist.zarkonite
    • Listen, Trudeau is WAY too incompetent to seize power like you're implying. This mofo would rather just go to dinner parties than run this place. He's not aboutzarkonite
    • to give himself the task of being a dictator, too much work, not enough cool factor.zarkonite
    • @1:01:20 "an ability to compel" tow truck operators.monNom
    • @monNom at what exact time in the video are they saying these things?sted
    • The limitation on right to assemble is within Dave Lametti's statement. He defines 'borders, border approaches and Ottawa' as areas they (might? will?) limit.monNom
    • well I can't wait for you to give us an update with proof of all those tow truck companies being compelled into forced labour.zarkonite
    • Okay, I think i posted timestamps for the tow truck thing above. Crowdfunding/Bank seizure and liability shield: @16:20, @18:11 and @18:41monNom

    • As for the reporting thing with crowdfunding. Fintrac has something called 'Know your client' which requires financial institutions to collect personal info...monNom
    • ...that in turn is forwarded to the government. It's why you have to sit with someone to open an account at a bank.monNom
