    @hotroddy

    Sentiment: 54% of Canadians agree it's time to get rid of mandates/restrictions - see Angus Reid Poll linked earlier
    ~1/3 polled say they understand or identify with the issues the truckers are protesting (I can't remember who did that poll, it was from around the same time as the Angus Reid poll)
    90% of Toronto Star readers polled thought the truckers should be allowed to continue to protest
    Support definitely split down party lines. It's something like 85% against for liberals and NDP, 50-70% support for Cons, PPC, Greens. Something like that anyway.

    Coverage:
    Very biased toward the 'hateful/dangerous/insurrection' talking points that the liberals/NDP are putting out. You can check out some livestreamers to see just how different from reality that coverage is. Viva Frei has been livestreaming on youtube every day of the rally talking to both sides. I've been watching lots of different streamers about this. I haven't seen a single symbol of hate on the livestreams. I have seen some pretty questionable things done by the police in Ottawa, maybe hoping to instigate a response that they can crack down on. So far, no one has taken the bait. Ottawa police sicking-out and resigning in droves as they don't seem to like the orders they're getting. Ottawa residents mixed between support and frustration.

    That's the Ottawa protest. I think things are taking a more serious turn in Windsor at the Ambassador bridge. The auto plants in Michigan and Ontario are having to shut down because they can't move parts across the border. That's going to get everyone's attention real quick, as automotive is Canada's #2 export worth about 12% of GDP. (Oil is ~18%).
    If the protests continue, and this type of strategic civil disobedience increases, it could become a real problem.

    I think this protest has been pretty toxic for the current government. Conservatives smell blood in the water, Liberals are defecting, NDP, which props up the Liberal minority government, seem to be changing their tone as of late. Bloc Quebecois appear to be aligning with Conservatives. JT has been reading the same script since the beginning, with no change in sight. I suspect we're heading towards a non-confidence vote as a result of all this.

    • I had a long chat with my US immigration lawyer who happens to be a Canadian Jew. He's a bit of a conspiracy nut be he believes this goes beyond JThotroddy
    • JT is getting orders from people above him and JT is being told what to say.hotroddy
    • but that theory is probably as realistic and truckers being Neo Nazishotroddy
    • *as realistic ashotroddy
    • I think it's purely politics for him. If he gives in, he loses the perception of control.monNom
    • that pretty much describes gavin newsomhotroddy
    • Perhaps it’s time for the Canadian Goverment to listen to the people not the legacy media?Chimp
