Got home from Texas last night with my daughter (7). We flew down on Thursday, both fully vaccinated and me boosted. Daughter started having a cough yesterday and scratchy throat. Used two rapid tests each at home last night, she was positive and I was negative. First case we've had in my household.

She's generally feeling okay, but staying isolated in her room, binging videos on her iPad. Had a fever of 100.1 last night but medicine has kept it down. No loss of smell or taste, no consistent cough. I even got a pulse oximeter today and she's got no oxygen issues.

Both kids staying home from school, waiting on her PCR test tomorrow and then getting one myself tomorrow. Wearing masks around the house, actually slept in my mask last night in bed with my wife and that was surprisingly easy to do after some melatonin to get a deep sleep. Can't do that again tonight... I'm sleeping on the basement couch.

Anyone with kids who have had it?

    • Why you shooting up Melanin?
Just take Ivermectin like a normal person.
      palimpsest
    • wish for a speedy recovery.neverscared
    • at the risk of sounding like pr2, it's a bit late to wear a mask and make your daughter isolate - you'll already have been exposedhans_glib
    • I agree with Hans. Wearing a mask in the house and isolating from family seems pointless.monospaced
    • We had it. My son (4) basically spit into my mouth with wet coughs so there’s that.monospaced
    • Also masks are more used to protect others not yourself.Chimp
    • You were both on an airplane? That’s basically a covid incubation tube and infector machine.monospaced
    • fever is your body helping to produce antibodies rapidly AND a way to slow down reproduction of the virus = don't try to reduce it with drugs.pr2
    • better to let a fever run, then cool it with medicines. it's your bodies way of killing off the infection.shapesalad
    • RIP (rest infront PC)api
    • my 2 boys (5&1) and wife got it. pretty mild so far. I have not got it some howletterhead
    • the let fever run is ok for adults but not for small children or elderly people. in children it can fuck them up. in old ppl it‘s a sign for infections.uan
    • fever in old ppl means go to a doctor and run tests to find a medicine that can assist the system in surviving.uan
    • I spent the December in Texas (from LA) and they definitely are living different down there. Almost no indication there’s a pandemic going on at all.shellie
    • I’m surprised I didn’t get it as many family members in ATX and in DAL did. Ended up bouncing from air mattress to air mattress at uninflected households.shellie
    • Suffice to say my back was killing me by the time I left. Thanks COVID.shellie

    • lots of headscratching decisions here... getting on a plane, tripple vaxxing a kid, sleeping with a mask on...Brabo_Brabo
    • ... it has to be a parody.Brabo_Brabo
    • you just don't know if one shall really laugh or cry anymore.pr2
    • The bit about sleeping next to wifey with a mask, then thinking a retreat to the sofa next night will work. Hasnt the horse bolted?Brabo_Brabo
    • An outwardly bright person making so many decisions like this. I bet he voted Brandon.Brabo_Brabo
