In the last 2 months since we've moved from Phoenix to New England I've had to come to the reality that my dog walks will no longer be in 60°F weather... more like 10°F (give or take 15-20°). Gotta put on my under layers... not to mention pants. I HATE it... it takes longer to gear up than it does to walk the poor pup at times.
So... My wife's aunt lives next door and knows how much I hate it... she offered a suggestion about a month ago: "Teach your dog to pee and poop on command." LOLOL... right... you can get a dog to do that. Suuuuuure...
**record scratch**
My dog now pees and poops on command, guyz.
It took maybe THREE weeks for her to learn. It's really simple too... wait for her to drop and pee and instantly start saying 'Go pee! Go pee! GOOD PEE!! GooooOOOOOooD PEE!!'. And do the same for when she poops. Do that over and over and even have a treat on hand sometimes (not always though). Then... within a few weeks of doing that I'd begin to say it up front (when we're at a good pooping / peeing spot). While we are walking in the right area I now say 'Go pee! Go Pee!'... and she fucking drops and pees ON COMMAND. I wait a couple minutes and then say 'Go Poop!!'... and BAM... shittin' where she stands. She just drops and goes (if she has to). It's cut the freezing cold walking times down about 15 mins.
Good girl, Ginger!!!
- Pavlov for the business end of the dog!mort_

- Cool pets Kevin!! I'd never heard about the commands thingOBBTKN
- time for some longer walks so its worth gearing up :) mine is getting old for the cold weather so I'm thinking getting clothes for him :)********
- he only shits with the leash off, i leveraged that to create a shit command.
Every time when i'm in a hurry and pressure him to take pee does the same thing.******** - few drops here and there and the fuck off, goto next tree. like they know they're fucking with our lives :)********
- This is amazing. My two are polar opposites: the bulldog shits immediately, and the other is very discriminate about the spots he chooses.garbage

- Ginger is beautiful. Is she a mix?garbage
- we think so, garbage... her papers said 'lab mix' but she's barely 50lbs and resembles a cross between a Shiba Inu and a Carolina Dog (aka — American Dingo)PonyBoy
- Can totally see that. Pretty pup!garbage
- Phoenix to New England is a wonderful move, I hope you are happy. Post some photos of the area if you are comfortable, best of luck!********
