Oh, and "rebooting" movies. Tell the same story as the original, changed slightly with new characters, technically making it a sequel, but with weird muddy storytelling as a result.

I'm looking at you, The Matrix Resurrections.

    Make up new shit, goddammit.

Good storytelling has moved to TV, i guess.

    • With good i mean original.jagara
    • The newest Ghostbusters did it, too but it wasn't the mess Resurrection is. I agree, let movie makers do their thing.lemmy_k
    • The Force Awakens = A New Hope but old. Okay, Rey and Kylo Ren are cool characters.jagara
    • With Resurrections they were trolling the movie industry (WB), they literally have lines in there that more or less said it lol

      Pay attention nex time

    • Had to skip it two thirds in. Bored out of my skull. I'm not interested in the movie industry, I'm interested in seeing a good movie.jagara
    • I thought the whole point of the movie was trolling while making fun of itself as well. Once I caught on, I actually enjoyed it.mapleT
    • ^exactly this! Me too, I had a blast!
But lots of people have the attention span of mice these days...

Same story with Don't Look Up, the critics hate it

    • Resurrections and The Force Awakens are sequels. Not reboots.CyBrainX
    • One exception I can think of. Battlestar Galactica was infinitely better than the show from the 70s.CyBrainX
    • Making fun of itself, self reference and meta commentary isnt clever, nor does it add to the movie experience.cannonball1978
    • What cannon said. Massively overdone and said nothing new. Even the depiction of "old" people was cringe. It felt like a long ad for the video game.Gucci
