Start a new job next year, wondering if I should get the new 16" MBP or get a PC laptop. I've never really used a PC properly before, is it worth the mac not being as fast for video vs learning PCness?
- Is work paying for the machine?! I guess it's a preference over OS. I cannot go to a PC ever again, BUT stick to what you like, are comfortable with, etc.ideaist
- My understanding is the new MBPs are killer at video. Faster than the $15K Mac Pros even.monospaced
- Yeah, they'll buy the machine so I reckon I'll go with the highest spec MBP. We have some PC's in the studio to test stuff, but I find the interfaces annoying.PhanLo
- I've been doing simple 4K linear edits with my macbook and it's blazing fast. There are some software bugs because of the new hardware but those will get workedzarkonite
- out over time. I think the M1 Max is a good future proof CPU that works well now. Don't buy into the hype tho, you will need a lot of ram.zarkonite
- it takes half a day to get the crtl + apple button down. other than that the two mouse buttons is a real kicker. GO PC!AQUTE
- but highest spec mac or highest spec PC. i am sure PC would smoke it. if work is paying run that bill mofo!AQUTE
- Get the Macstoplying
- Mac it is!PhanLo
- @zarkonite There's a nasty memory leak bug in the first release of Monterey that may or may not being affecting you RAM use!evilpeacock
- @evilpeacock there's that, but you also still need ram to load up your data, swapping off the SSD while editing is still a bad idea.zarkonite
