The sparrow’s doing great. I think what happened is the lil guy fell out of his nest (it’s a fledgeling) and lay on the ground for a while dehydrating and going hungry before my cat brought him to me like, “hey did you lose this?”. After a very thorough inspection i found no injuries, but birds have thin skin and cats have sharp teeth that make wounds that close over quickly so i put him on antibiotics just in case.
He’s a greedy little bugger on a high-protein diet (went from hand-fed bird formula from a dropper to pecking solids in two days!) and his weight is increasing steadily.
He also went from complete immobility to small hops, to short hop/flights, and finally (today) to longer, sustained flight at a consistent height. I’ve been taking him outside for practice. There’s a bigass pomegranate tree in my backyard inhabited by a flock of sparrows and they like chirping back and forth to each other.
Probably tomorrow or the next day he’ll be good enough at flight to join them!
