You can download the 3D model of the island from Disney's Moana, along with a volume grid of the clouds they use.

The cloud is 2GB (which contains lower-res versions) and the island data is 45GB (90GB+ unpacked), with the pbr materials another 6GB (40GB+).

The clouds are neat and you can get interesting fx by changing the channel mapping - smoke, fire etc. Tempted to try the island, but I fear my work machine may burst into flames and melt down to the earth's core just attempting to open the fucking thing.

    • ^^ yeah, Disney/Pixar are big on Open Source systems, they occasionally drop stuff like this so people can test their own tech.face_melter
    • Looking forward to the Moana sequel made by China.shapesalad
    • This guy talks in depth about the technical details in trying to render this dataset. https://schuttejoe.g…monNom
    • Neat to read that, it's rendering on an entirely industrial level. Our scenes (occasionally) top out at 7-10Gb, so 100+ with lighting is the stuff of madness.face_melter
