AstraZeneca: British authority investigates cases of thrombosis.

The U.K. Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency is investigating cases of rare blood clots in the brain following vaccination with AstraZeneca's drug. The Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA) made the announcement today. Earlier, there had been a media report that the agency was considering no longer recommending the drug for under-30s.

"Our thorough and detailed investigation into reports of very rare and specific types of blood clots with low platelet counts following vaccination with AstraZeneca is continuing," MHRA chief executive June Raine said, according to the statement. A regulatory decision has not yet been made, however, she said. The agency urged people to continue attending vaccination appointments.

In the U.K., a total of about 30 cases of rare blood clots have been reported in more than 18 million vaccinations with AstraZeneca, the MHRA said last week.
