"Sweden's death rate is EXACTLY that of countries with very strickt lock-down." — pr2

Are you one of these people - much like an old friend and business partner - who simply Make Shit Up hoping that no would realise or bother checking?

    • yeah he either has no idea what he's talking about or just trolling_niko
    • he isn’t trolling thoughmonospaced
    • Check Taiwan's death rate.instrmntl
    • I considered adding Taiwan, but there's a limit of 6 entries in this format so didn't justify a non-cultural equivalent and besides which 0's a boring # :)Nairn
    • Naim,
      1. pull out a calculator
      2. look up the total of cases of Covid for Sweden (815k)
      3. look up covid deaths (13.5k)
      pr2
    • 4. calculate the percentage (1.66%)pr2
    • (this is the OFFICIAL death rate for Sweden.)
      5. do steps 1-4 with any other country and compare (most are around 2%)
      pr2
    • 6. slap yourself on the face for not listening to your math teacher in the 3rd grade.pr2
    • 7. slap yourself on the face for not listening to your [insert native language] teacher for misreading most basic of statements.pr2
    • nobody is arguing the death rate it could be pretty constant, the more people get infected the more will die. Why not limit it to 10,000 people and have 200 dea_niko
    • ...deaths instead of 1million people getting it and having 10,000 deaths? that's the problem That's the math._niko
    • sorry 20,000 deaths, bad math here too :)_niko
    • niko, because the rest of the world - the other diseases, mental illness, kids developing (or not in the current climate) the most basic of skills don't stop.pr2
    • you can't shut down the universe because you "feel" like it.pr2
    • How on Earth is the death rate relevant to lockdown measures taken to reduce spread? If the death-rate is 2%, it's 2% - no one's arguiing against that.Nairn
    • You're stating that Sweden, having not taken lockdown measures as other countries have, has a similar case rate, not a deathrate % of those cases.Nairn
    • You're conflating arguments, so I'm unsure who should've listened to their [insert native language] teacher more.Nairn
    • Were you not also saying not more than a week ago that the death rate was <1%? Was that you?Nairn
    • Finland, Sauna's.... read up on the health benefits of body temp fluctuation.shapesalad
    • i never said "similar case rate" - you are making stuff up.pr2
    • Above, i said "OFFICIAL" death rate. all things considered death rate is as low as around 0.6% but then the math might get a bit hard for some to even go therepr2
    • we're not shutting down the universe pr2, we're a tiny speck of dust in the vast cosmos, we've been here as brief as a firefly flash in the night and if we want_niko
    • to survive as a species, we need to take all measures possible to do so. a 2% death rate isn't much in your eyes but what if the next one is 50% or 100% it's a_niko
    • small price to pay to treat this as a dry run for future pandemics that will inevitably come. Human kind depends on us working together for a greater good._niko
    • niko, then DO work with me. you are scared shitles, and i'm not at all. we have data to show which attitude is closer to the truth.pr2
    • (as stated above, REAL death rate is closer to 0.6%) those numbers do not warrant the sort of response we've witnessed.pr2
    • if i'm not mistaken, just like me you have small kids too. what do i tell my 5 year old when he asks he why he need stow ear mask to school?pr2
    • do i tell him that DESPITE all science, to placate people's fears he must calm feelings of others?pr2
    • Lol yeah you’re so brave. I could care less if I get it and die, It’s about respect and doing selfless things for a common good that’s all, it’s easy no need to_niko
    • Freak out and lose your shit over it, it’ll pass just chill a bit. Go outdoors enjoy the sunshine and nature ._niko
    • for me, selfless thing is to look at science and data (in the process, do doubt, loosing some "friends" along the way). this is "common good."pr2
    • What would I tell my kid? My only thought is that I don't have kid-sized facemasks so that she can join in the fun when we go to the shops.Nairn
    • Kids don't give a shit. You do.

      Don't politicize them.
      Nairn
    • Or do. I don't care what you do to your kids.Nairn
    • You can barely put together a coherent sentence, so maybe hop off that that pseudo-intellectual high horse because that looks like a pretty big fall.garbage
    • pr2 you’re just misunderstanding the science and acting like your “special” conclusion is correct, despite no other experts coming to the same one.monospaced
    • I mean, did you ever wonder why no major conclusion matches yours? If your answer is it’s to scare people, you’re just a moronic conspiracy theorist. Seriously.monospaced
    • mono, did you ever wonder why you never bother reading science papers? by now you would read one or two just to prove me wrong and yet still none...pr2
    • the amount of major science sources saying the exact same thing as i do is staggering, and yet you still somehow claim those are "my" conclusions...pr2
    • No it isn’t. Nothing you’ve shared backs up your conclusions. You simply cherry pick and distort random parts to fit your anti mask narrative.monospaced
