thanks for all the responses. I think i'll go for the 15" powerbook, refurbished if possible. hopefully i'll get some hands-on action with it first if it is refurbished just to make sure there aren't any blemishes on it, and hopefully i'll be able to afford a 15 or 20 gig ipod too. after losing my 5gb ipod in munich this summer, i've noticed that a lot more people out there have ipods than i thought. it is really frustrating to see all these kids with brand new ipods knowing that i could still have mine if i was more careful :(
