One of my "friends" bought into the whole masks, quarantine, never contact anyone in person etc ideology. She came down with some symptoms and got tested positive then couldn't sleep out of fear (she's 40 yo, healthy and statistically speaking has nothing to worry about). She can't believe that someone who was so stringent with the preventive measures could get it and yet instead of seeing the horse shitness behind this strict self-imposed lock down that ultimately didn't prevent her from getting sick, she continues to speaks up how we have to continue going down the blind alley.

For me it shows the power of ideology - the moment you buy into one version of reality, there is no hope of saving you from yourself. Lots of people in this thread post personal anecdotes without any understanding that anecdotes, no matter how tragic, have nothing to do with factual reality.

    • fun anecdote. tell her to wear the mask over mouth and nose, they don't work if you use them to blind yourself.uan
    • Her strictness is keeping her from spreading it, moron. It’s not bullshit. She probably got sick because OTHER people weren’t as strict. Moron.monospaced
    • You’ve already proven a gross understanding of the data several times. This does NOT corroborate your delusions either.monospaced
    • 1 virus particle, infects 1 human cell, hijacks the DNA replication machinery, makes circa 600k copies of virus, until cell bursts. Think on about that.shapesalad
    • Difference between following the measures = amount of virus dose you get / amount of virus load you spread.shapesalad
    • You can be a healthy 40yo and not even notice you have covid if the dose is low.shapesalad
    • But try being a fit and healthy 30 year old nurse, not given adequate PPE, working 12+ hour shifts in an over crowded covid ward, with little sleep.shapesalad
    • You body already tired, given a high sustained dose of covid = you're not going to fair well.shapesalad
    • I hereby suggest pr2 gets a job as volunteer nurse at covid ward, works 12+ hour shifts, maskless and without washing hands before eating. Go on, we dare you.shapesalad
    • If you truly don't believe in preventive measures, go work on a covid ward without wearing a mask. Tell us how that works out for you. You coarse brained fool.shapesalad
    • is that you, deathboy?imbecile
    • Wearing a mask and using hygiene to prevent the spread of a deadly contagious virus is not an ideology either. Holy fuck you’re confused.monospaced
    • Lol @ ideologynb
    • Tbh your friend sounds like a good person. Someone who doesn’t discount science just because they happened to be an exception case.nb
    • NOBODY in the scientific community has ever suggested that masks plus distancing and hand washing would make you 100% safe. There is always a chance.nb
    • Also lolol at you accusing everyone ELSE of “posting personal anecdotes without any understanding”... like what would you call your post?!? Lol guynb
    • This post is an anectode that exposes your gross misunderstanding of reality. You are acting out of pure emotion to the point of ignoring science and expertise.monospaced
    • One can write whatever, and slow kids in the class will still never bother reading 2nd paragraph.pr2
    • Dr Pr2, savior of us all, you should work at a hospitaldmay
    • dmay, I had worked in hospitals on a number of occasions.pr2

    • You've bought into an ideology that denies science, distorts the findings, and makes ludicrous conclusions that preventive measures are pointless. Idiot.monospaced
    • mono, the fact that your two brain cells bouncing around in your empty head can even spell "science" correctly - i'm impressed!pr2
    • Are you really going to attack my intelligence and education? I'm game, let's play. You first.monospaced
    • I'd wager my life earnings that you have absolutely no education beyond public high school. Correct me if I'm wrong.monospaced
    • Pr2, how? Are you doctor? Nurse?dmay
    • I only have a biochem degree from a top university, with two parents as career physicians, and a wife as a front line doctor saving lives every day.monospaced
    • but are you a filmmaker? ;)GuyFawkes
    • to a small extent, sure ;)monospaced
