Currently using a 2016 i7 16GB Macbook Pro for Illy and Photoshop.

Thinking about getting a secondary machine - new M1 MacMini, but with only 8GB. Trying to get the cheapest Mac available.

Is this a viable option? Anyone in the know?

    • Probably comparable or better performancemonospaced
    • I upped the ram to 16gb in my M1 mini and I'm glad I did, not that much extra and you cant upgrade it later.slappy
    • once CC is M chip friendly it will run circles around that 2016 mbpinteliboy
    • I have heard that you cannot connect external monitor to new M1...among other limitations....so be carefuldkoblesky
    • I want one....but have to wait for MacBook Pro version hopefully this yeardkoblesky
    • Look at the tests on the M1 Air, the lack of ventilation kills its performance so if you're doing anything intensive... wait for a better chassis.zarkonite
    • i regret my 256gb purchase, wish i would have gone with 512imbecile
    • You most definitely can attach external displays. Haha.monospaced
    • I have the M1 Macbook Pro, do you mean wait for the 16" version @zarkonite? Also connects to a monitor beautifully :)slappy
    • M1 Mac mini here. Baseline. It’s perfect BUT overall software catching up... if you’re doing 4K video, I’d say upgrade BUT for design, development, etc...ideaist
    • ...baseline is fine.

Fuck fake monitor news / fake news. Works a charm across the board. Approved.

    • Oh nevermind, I mis-read and thought you were considering an M1 Air for work...zarkonite
    • Thanks for the insights. I think I'm confident with M1 Mac Mini now. But just debating that few extra $ for more Ram, since this was an unexpected purchase.randommail
    • I went with the base because B&H was selling for only $650! (normally 700)randommail
