My wife got on the list of a local tree service company and if they have spare tree rounds, they will contact people on their list and drop them off for free. So about 4 weeks ago we got a huge delivery of lovely ash tree rounds and I've been slowly splitting up all the wood to season. I have an electric log splitter, but these things are too big to even move or lift onto the splitter. So I've been using an axe/wedge and a sledge hammer and splitting it that way. The sound of a massive log cracking open from a wedge being driven into it is so damn cool. I feel like such a rugged outdoorsman splitting wood. Such a nice contrast to sitting in my home office 5 days a week.
All in all, we'll yield about 2 1/2 cords of beautiful wood for next year.- I love chopping wood. I got an axe and spent a couple days doing it myself before the new year. Great workout in freezing weather too!monospaced
