We decorated our tree this week with all the beautiful glass ornaments I’d bought for my husband over the past 15 years. Each commemorated some special moment from the year they were given. I spent ages sourcing each one so it would be special. The fucking tree fell down during the night. Almost every ornament smashed. We cleaned up the glass shards and pine needles, then dragged the tree and the base out to the balcony. We didn’t move the plastic sheet that the tree was sitting on until later in the day because we had to get the kid to school and us to work.
When we got home, we moved it and saw that the hardwood floor had buckled from all the water that had somehow seeped underneath the plastic.
That night we brought the tree back in to get it back in water. As we were setting it up my husband spun it around a little to get the best side facing out and a ton of fucking bird shit when flying all over the living room. It was splattered on the ceiling, on the walls...
We spent the rest of the night drinking and cleaning bird shit out of our living room.
FUCK 2020.

- I kept reading thinking "well this can't get worse". Sorry that it did. Any chance of piecing together the ornament fragments a la Island of Misfit Toys?garbage
- Oh god, this story is kind of an allegory for 2020 in itself.
Sorry to hear about the ornaments. Our toddler smashed a couple that had meaning this year.ben_ - It's small consolation, I'm sure, but this is one of my favourite QBN posts of 2020.Nairn
