Before my wife and I moved to Japan, we purged a great deal of material we had collected living in NYC for many years. Gave records to a friend and a huge amount of books to a guy downstairs who worked in Manhattan at a public library.
I had also been lugging around a couple of boxes of old National Geographics my parents didn't want. They were, of course, wonderful reference and I enjoyed immensely, but moving from apartment to apartment took its toll, so I finally scanned the pages and said goodbye to the magazines.
After being on a bit of lockdown, I finally had a chance to rock out some digital collages with the scans. I hope to get these printed one day - they come in at 40in x 40in 300dpi.
The first one with the blue man, red goggles is pretty timely - I believe the story focused on SARS (please correct me if wrong - I think the images were in Hong Kong - again, don't have the books to confirm...), none the less, seeing the woman in the lower section measure temperature was rather unsettling when I looked at the scans after a few years sitting on an external hard drive.
Anyhow, here are the results thus far and an explanation of the overall theme called ZENITH below -
As always, thanks for checking out the work and all of the positive support - be safe and stay creative everyone ; )
_ZENITH is a collage series examining hierarchical power structures achieved through destructive reconfiguration such as nation-state political ambitions via war, technological advancement via space-age exploration and, uncontrollable evolutionary societal modification due to natural causalities.
