got a hard lesson in the continued forced obsolescence of apple products.

my iphone 6 finally stopped responding, at least to any charge or power cable, so i am sending to a friend to get worked on. however, at this point it can't update to new software and some apps don't even work with it so i figure i'll go for the SE (as it is, stacked up against the competition, the best deal on the market currently)

however, i plug the SE in to my macbook pro (~2013) and get a "you cannot use this iphone with this computer, you don't have permission."

fast forward six hours of various software updates and now half the creative programs i was using i no longer can (CS6, soundbooth, extensis)... but my phone will sync.

nightmare company. it was a long time coming, the need to upgrade things so i'm not totally upset, plus currently all my projects are analogue so i didn't lose any thing mid-way.

still a pain in the ass though and makes me want to just go back to windows XP, a flip phone and photoshop 5.5

    • I know a guy who can hook you up, he's from the underground resistance, code named _bennn_niko
    • How is going back to XP, PS 5.5 and a flip phone different from going back to OS 9, PS 5.5 and a flip phone?ESKEMA
    • yep, apple are renowned for that shit. and fucking adobe come steaming in behind themhans_glib
    • Man, that sucks! Hot tip: you don’t ever need to connect a phone to a computer. Most iPhone users probably don’t even own a computer.nb
    • Is a failed battery after 6 years failed obsolescence? I don't think any other phone manufacturer does anything differently if this happens.monospaced
    • @mono you missed the point. The 2013 macbook not working with a 2020 iphone is the obsolescence that could be considered a failure.nb
    • I can still buy a battery for my old HTC Evo 4G for $5, but I don't need to. I just pulled it out and the battery still works. it's turning on now.imbecile
    • Your Apple computer is too old for your new Apple phone is baked in intentionally. You're a fool or an Apple stock holding asshole if you say any different.imbecile
    • Oh, I see. You can't plug over a cable because macOS isn't the newest. Got it.monospaced
    • Will it not sync wirelessly?monospaced
