The app company Webflow put out a message that they're updating terminology to change uses of the word "master" to "main," following in GitHub's footsteps.

Does anyone know if a single non-white human being has ever taken offense to the use of the word "master" in software terminology?

    • I don't get it. I browsed a convo on Reddit about GitHub's move, and I lost count of the number of people who identified themselves as back and gave no F's.mg33

    • People need to be less offended. Something is either truth or nonsense. If it’s nonsense why be offended? If it’s true, why be offended?shapesalad
    • So what would be a non offensive use of the word ‘master’ then? Can I master any new skills or is that no longer woke?Static_Line
    • Considering that this isn't a master/slave term, the move makes even less sense. PLUS! You can name your git branch whatever the fuck you want!section_014
