Today I learned a huge lesson about why it's not a great idea to do business with people outside your economic bloc. Nothing wrong with person, but a problem (my problem) cropped up and instantly we have an issue of import duties. Thing I sent out got taxed; Thing I'd need to get returned would be taxed; Thing I'd fix and send back would then get taxed again.
This is a massive clusterfuck.
This, in a nutshell, is Brexit.
Country I'm dealing with is Norway, ffs. Not fucking Bophuthatswana. So much complication.
- Also: I really fucked a job up.
I have no idea how.
I dissected my process and.. no clue how. just a total fuck up.Nairn - Just a minor fuck up - but, a major fuck up.Nairn
- tell me how many kilometers that is away from you so i can decide how hard to laughimbecile
- tbf, if i describe a radius from where I am, it's utterly outside my tiny cluster of islands here. Still 'inside Germany' radius, so 'EU'.
Bunch of fucker.Nairn - *squints*
*extrapolates poorly, but considerably using finger measurements from GMaps scales*
about 650km.Nairn - Sorry, more like 900km. I was using the wrong thumb.Nairn
- Client used to be based in UK, but moved (with her English partner and child) back to Norway after Brexit. This is an outlier case, for sure, but still. BuggerNairn
- i presumed it would be closer, that's still a significant amount, still though taxes each time for a "state away", from my perspective is quite sillyimbecile
- eh, Europe is just about as big as the contigous US is, with a lot more complicating politics and geographic features (ie Seas)Nairn
- but yeah, it's fucking retarded that we have taxation in betwixt the UK and Norway.
Fucking thanks, Brexiters. THANKS A LOT.Nairn - You should move to Lisbon. https://thespaces.co…shapesalad
- It's where your clients will be in the future. Everything is slowly dying off in London/UK. In 20 years time the creative and financial industriesshapesalad
- will have moved on from London, where it once was the focus... it'll move, and London will be a shadow of it's 2000's glory.shapesalad
- Lisbon you can rent a bigger space, maybe across the river in Cacilhas. You'll will be warmer. You'll be within the EU, so a bunch more opportunities.shapesalad
- Norway is not EU, you're fucked :))grafician
- As anti-Brexit as I am, you're a schmuck if you don't appreciate the value, much as I am often to deride, of LDN. It's a world capital, and will be for a while.Nairn
- @nairn shape hates the UK, not sure why he's here.fadein11
- London has value in russian/arab and chinese money. On the streets it's just immigrants festering in poverty of three main groups, blacks, indians, arabics.shapesalad
- In-between those two extremes of wealth and non-wealth are a fine grain of British, EU, USA, JP, types trying to get by, trying not to fall into the ghettos, shapesalad
- where the immigrants live, and the crime/drugs is depressing, while constantly being held down be the money laundering chinese/russian/arab...shapesalad
- Thats london. After near 20 years here, that's my economic and demographic analysis.shapesalad
- And man.. I want to get out to where just normal families and people live. Sick of this odd fucking city of misery at either spectrum.shapesalad
- for the record - i've been trying to get out for the past six years. That said, your outlook is utterly misguided, and not necessarily for bad reasons.Nairn
- LDN will evolve and do just fine whatever happens, barring catastrophe.Nairn
- With, or without us. It doesn't care. It doesn't need to. And that, I think, is the realisation people who migrated here should realise at some point.Nairn
- er.. and by 'migrated to' - i mean in the salmon lifecycle -like thing wherein people like us moved in from the sticks, like salmon out to into the angry sea.Nairn
- at some point we need to spawn and so fuck off back to a little stream somewhere.
And then, die.Nairn - if you've been here 20 years, as i have, you're now either Londoner forever or Past Best and should fuck off.
As I say, I'd like to myself.Nairn - I'll probably die here.
Hopefully not too soon, at least.Nairn - Big cities are chaos, small too (you don't have anonymity), you need to find mid range.i_was
