I have an M-Audio key rig 49 usb keyboard and the USB input port on it just broke. The gold metal receptors bent and one broke off so now I can't connect to my laptop. How hard is it to replace that usb input on one of these things? I hate the thought of throwing it out if it can be fixed easily. thanks

    • Get a soldering iron and some flux and wick. Practice on something first! https://youtu.be/eqI…err
    • My akai mpk mini usb port got bent. Took it apart, cut one socket off the usb cable, soldered it directly to where the socket connected.shapesalad
    • bought a usb soldering iron from amazon for peanuts. Better option for environment is to fix something. Especially when what's broken is so minor.shapesalad
    • You just need a steady hand and google. Examine how the usb plug is wired before you cut it off, use a craft knife to cut into the plastic of the plug.shapesalad
    • Once you know where the red etc cables are going, you can figure where those go in the socket. Or just google it all.shapesalad
    • What I mean to say is, the only problem to solve is to figure out which wires to solder where.shapesalad
    • ^ i think he means the socket, not a plug. err is right, but your talking about $40 for a new socket, soldering iron, flux, wick and if your not confident somekingsteven
    • clamps to hold it all together...kingsteven
    • oh you wired a cable to the points? fair game. tbh i'm pretty sure i'd just buy a new one and stick the old one in the garage with the intention to fix it andkingsteven
    • throw it out about 5 years later.kingsteven
    • my m-audio keyboard started chucking out random midi commands for no reason. fucking piece of tat. so now i have the roland a-49 and it's a much nicer keyboard.hans_glib
