Weird memory for weird blog Friday:

Years ago and thousands of miles away, I had the shittiest apartment ever. A former servant's quarters that had been walled off from the house it used to serve. When I moved in there was kudzu growing inside of the unit, the roaches ran like fucking wolves, and brown recluses everywhere.

I was in my early 20s, rent was $325 a month (lol), and it was the time to get some wrecklessness out of my system.

I had house shows, there was a ramp in the living room during winter, people passed out on the roof quite regularly, stray cats with feline AIDs would die in the back yard, and I had to learn carpentry on the fly in order to fix all of the holes punched into the walls.

It was an odd, wild place that became popular in my neighborhood. There's no counting the nights where it was standing room only, and I didn't know half of the people that were lounging around in my bedroom.

But here's the weirdest memory of this madhouse:

I woke up in the middle of the night to a strange, numb buzzing in my face. It tasted horrible. A giant cockroach had decided my mouth looked like a cozy place for a nap, and its wings were so wet from my spit that it was unable to fly out. It was just buzzing around behind my teeth.

Earlier in the evening I had been cutting timber for a bonfire, so there was an axe next to me. My couch and the wall took a bit of damage as I set out to murder the hell out of this wannabe Gregor Samsa that thought it could sleep rent-free inside of my head.

    It got away.
