We basically only have two parties. Democrats, which would be considered conservatives in most developed countries, and the GOP, which are literally treading into fascist waters. That's not an exaggeration.
The president is selected by the electoral college, which is an antiquated system that was developed to help slave-owners have more sway in the political apparatus on account of them living in less populated states. Not that Clinton was a viable candidate by any stretch, but she did win the popular vote and still lost the election.
What else do you want to know? Rampant gerrymandering, foreign influence, corporate influence, etc. If you're looking for names, Mitch McConnell is probably the most dangerous member of the GOP.
