Does anyone else think that this whole vaccine thing is nothing but a bunch of crap, and that like the influenza vaccine, it will do nothing but prevent?

Is it just me, or does someone else also think that the media talks about the vaccine as a cure for something that has no cure; an injection to “treat” a virus that will not kill it, nor stop it’s infection, but will only aid people with an antibody to prevent it? ... anyway while it’s mutating, unstoppable, and deadly, with hosts getting more and more difficult to be targeted (in scientific terms), “RUSSIA IS READY TO PHASE 3 THE COVID VACCINE”.

    • depends what the consensus of the medical professional world is when it arrives. not going to sit back on my keyboard coming up with dum theories.inteliboy
    • Herd immunity depends on a systematic/robust vaccination program. the first bivalent flu vaccine was introduced in 1942 and depending on flu strainsjonny_quest_lives
    • we scan either have a horrible or benign flu season. so yeah in about 60 years we will have a decent handle on thisjonny_quest_lives
    • By definition a vaccine isn’t a cure; a preventative. As others have stated - the more who get vaccines, the fewer carriers of said disease, and reduced spread.bulletfactory
    • Of course it would prevent. That’s the point.monospaced
    • over 75% of COVID deaths are over 65s. over 65s make up 9%. a large proportion of the rest are at-risk 40+...kingsteven
    • so if you can prevent 99% of COVID deaths by vaccinating 15% of people that makes it far less deadly than the flu = never hear of it again territory.kingsteven
    • Don't you guys read what we post here? The first vaccines will have about a 40% rate of efficacy, this Fall-Winter. The next ones 50-60% or more next year.

    • And again, this virus is not the fucking flu, it can be targeted easily with vaccines, they just need to test the vaccines first before inoculation.

    • yes graf, but in the eventuality that its a seasonal illness, the effective methods (in efficacy and rapid deployment for new strains) will become apparent.kingsteven
    • the idea of mass vaccination with a new vaccine in order to eliminate the virus would seem to be far fetched and just scary...kingsteven
    • Yes kingsteven, all signs point to this virus being seasonal from now on, not to mention others in the future, as we degrade the environment...

    • If a large part of the virus remains the same while other bits mutate, if the vaccine targets the stable part and doesn’t kill human, then vaccine could work.shapesalad
    • But that’s a lot of research and testing. And without a long term test, we won’t know the long term side effects.shapesalad
    • But clearly whichever country develops a vaccine first, holds all the cards at the table. Sanctions removed. Trade tariffs removed. Etc etc.shapesalad
    • Not really shape, there are good candidates in all parts of the world. Plus would you trust a Chinese or Russian vaccine vs. an US/UK/Europe one?
      ********
    • also as I've read about vaccines, everybody is collaborating, the science is already figured out, it's just a matter of testing, delivery and mass production.
      ********
    • I would not take a rushed vaccine, would you? So realistically we should wait for 1-2 more years for the 2nd or 3rd generation ones.
