More Americans have died from covid-19 already than in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars combined. Let that sink in. That's nearly 25 years of war compared to a few months of this virus.
And we're at a no-end-in-sight situation. Right now, American deaths are equalling an average of about three 9/11s per week. Imagine 9/11 happening and then a few days later another 9/11. And then another. And another. And another. For months.
This would maybe be understandable if the virus hit here first, if we were caught off-guard. Trump will tell us that there was nothing we could have done. He'll blame China for lying about the virus. And his supporters are so willingly ignorant that they will agree and defend him. Yes, China deserves a lot of blame for the global pandemic. But Trump's inaction is directly responsible for tens of thousands of American deaths.
This virus was not a surprise from China that we couldn't see coming. Italy was SCREAMING a warning to the world to prepare for this. Not only the government of Italy but Italian citizens were lighting up social media non-stop in the days before the first cases here, begging us to prepare.
But Trump told everyone not to worry and then did absolutely nothing to prepare us as a country.
When was the last time a President allowed so many Americans to die for no reason at all? Trump will probably win the next election, too. In the wake of all this death I just can't think of anything more sad than re-electing the man who allowed this to happen to us.
- you are right. BUT Americans only act together if a human enemy threatens the country. See Pearl Harbour, see 9/11...********
- as these cases are the only times they can put aside their internal social struggles and band together to face a common enemy they can directly bomb.********
- with Pearl Harbour the US engaged Japan directly and entered WW2. With 9/11 they triggered the "war on terror" and so on...********
- basically they don't do shit unless you directly destroy their property.********
- I disagree with you, graf. Vietnam, the Gulf War, Afghanistan, Iraq War, etc did not require Americans to "act together." Most Americans did nothing at all.********
- In the case of Covid-19, it seems that most Americans are now taking precautions and acting together more so than they would be needed to in time of war.********
- even simpler: if you kill their dog, they will bomb your house. But if a natural disaster kills their dog, they don't do shit. See tornadoes, Katrina, fires etc********
- It's a very small minority right now who is refusing to do what's best for their country.********
- nb those wars were not supported 100% by all americans, not unlike WW2 or even mostly the "war on terror".********
- nb acting together now would mean removing Trump and over 90% of the people respecting the "manual" on how to act during a pandemic. It's rather simple.********
- Crazy shit********
- great post nb!utopian
- HA! NB you think trump allowed these deaths? For realz? Are you that fucking stupid? Rhetorical based on first response********
- how about this NB tell me what you would have liked to have happened and how you would handle the response through every facet of society. down to recycling.********
- you are the problem. looking for god like men to rule with omnipotence or iron fists. learn to live where the leader you follow is yourself.********
- and context on numbers cdc reports half the numbers... who is correct and do we know. and war deaths are actually small vs everyday death. context.********
- in the last 5 months where are death rates for typical yearly averages? you'd need to know these things for a real sense of context********
- jeez deathboyNutter
- Ok so deathboy’s arguments are: 1. I should have had a plan in place. 2. My thoughts on the president are to blame for all this.********
- Great post but Trump isn't getting re-elected.CyBrainX
- 3. These people would still be alive if I learned to be my own leader.********
- 4. Because people also die from other causes, we shouldn’t care about these deaths.********
- Leader should have taken it seriously and acted mature and professionally, spreading reason and caution and not skepticismmonospaced
- you are right. BUT Americans only act together if a human enemy threatens the country. See Pearl Harbour, see 9/11...
