For some of the better office furniture that's built to last, I think used is a good option (though not herman miller. That name=$$$ even used.)

As an example, I have one of these Haworth Very Task chairs. They are around $1500 new but I got it for $180 used in perfect condition. They seem less well known so easy to find a good price on the used market. Very sturdy chair, probably good for 300lb. 12 year warranty. Nice ergonomic adjustments. Seat pan not very comfy but I put a cushion on it and it's fine.

Also have a Knoll Chadwick chair. Nice and airy, fewer adjustments than the Haworth and not quite as robust, but still pretty strong (maybe < 240lb) and a comfier seat than the Haworth. I've seen loads of these for < $100 used.
