^ The substandard education system, the prevalence of religion, and the sensationalist news cycle all result in a (majority of) population that is completely incapable of critical thinking. Add to that the two-party political system, inward-looking culture, a superiority complex ingrained into everyone from birth, and you’ve got yourself the answer.

I am sorry it if seems oversimplified and I don't want to offend anyone, but, in a nutshell, I think that is it.

    • you had me at substandard education. what do you suggest as a better objective vehicle not state run or funded? And how would it politcally sell if parents maydeathboy

    • ie you'd have to cite your proposed values of edu, in comparison and cite sources that aren't opinion for the reasoning. without it just another feelingdeathboy
    • Oversimplification of 330 million lives. You’re regurgitating what you see in the news, not society.imbecile

    • ...whole. I have first-hand experience of several education systems, of which American is just one. I have also experienced several cultures...scruffics
    • ...and lived in a number of countries over the course of my life – I don't need the news to tell me anything. I have enough experience within your society...scruffics
    • ...to tell you America has got a personality disorder. It needs to open the window, take a deep breath, and look out to the world. There is a lot of good....scruffics
    • ...stuff happening all around. You might learn a thing or two.scruffics
    • society is not the problem, leadership is. stop blaming more people for your feelings than are responsible. focus on the problem, not its victims.imbecile
    • you sound like those assholes who wouldn't hire an immigrant while telling them to pull themselves up by their bootstrapsimbecile
    • i am not sure how you got any of that from what i am said.scruffics
    • well then, that concludes you typing in notes how people should change to suit your beliefs.imbecile
    • It’s not about an alternative to the state run public system. It’s about improving it and funding it adequately. It clearly failed you shitboy.monospaced
    • That’s why you are simultaneously proud of your poor education and support dismantling it in favor of unconstitutional private, for profit alternatives.monospaced
    • The sad part is you’re just regurgitating the conservative position, which Devos is acting on. You’re brainwashed.monospaced
    • You are right. I knew this was a waste of time.scruffics
    • and yet attractive country in the WORLD for immigrants around the WORLD despite the poor education, prevelance of religion, etc etc.hotroddy
    • Savage synthesis of a reality that is often difficult to synthesize. Bravo.maquito
    • Remarkable sidetone "discussion" abridgment as well. Thank you, scruffics.maquito
    • @hotroddy, you mean poor, hungry, desperate third world country immigrants.maquito
    • I never got a clear standpoint: Do immigrants "strengthen our country because of their hard work and talents"...maquito
    • or are they "a burden on our country because they take our jobs, housing and health care"?maquito
    • Why is it so hard to get a concrete position of the american government about any subject?maquito
    • USA is the most attractive country to invest your $$. plenty of rich people from first world want to live here as well.hotroddy
    • China and US are only countries to experience the growth it has. While Europe and South America economies sputter.hotroddy
    • It’s desirable because it’s UNCONSTITUTIONAL and utterly ILLEGAL to force religion or actively discriminate on race in the USA.monospaced
    • Immigrants want to come to the US because it markets itself well. And $$$ I deliberately didn’t bring up in my reply because you are obsessed with it and...scruffics
    • ... it was just a matter of time until it came up naturallyscruffics
    • Scruffics. I saw mostly nonsense responses based on emotional positions. However I didn't see any answers on the education front. The problems are obvious I hopdeathboy
    • E. Solutions are much more an issue with existing law and structures. Even trying to publicly fund non gov systems are hamstrung. Perhaps the issue is to godeathboy
    • Away from public education or what most call daycare. Like insurance put responsibility back to the consumer and demand more from themdeathboy
    • Teaching as a subversive education is a great book for and educator in knowing what they are teaching and objectively looking at like ng term implications of medeathboy
    • I think u see it. Just develop it a bit more. I don't have an answer to better it. I do t think it can be bettered by decreedeathboy
    • More allong the lines of recognizing the failings. Identifying them and sharing info and seeing what happens. Gov can subsidize locally on democratic whimsdeathboy
    • Sorry dude, I’ve read your responses a few times and the typos made really hard for me to understand what exactly youare trying to say. Either way...scruffics
    • ... I am almost certain that private education is not the solution. Not only will it bring more religion and private interest into the system but it will also..scruffics
    • ... make it less attainable for the poorer population, which all of these things are the opposite of what I think needs to happen.scruffics
    • Precisely, scruffics. And religion has no place in public school on constitutional grounds.monospaced
    • What things make you think privatized education is not the solution? Why must i bring religion? Isn't socialism also a religion? Omnipotence applied to statedeathboy
    • planning. The cost is an issue, but i think temporary in transition. You'd see a defunding of institutions creating so many new opportunitiesdeathboy
    • in a diversity of areas around the country. and charity would still exist. how'd school work before state run education?deathboy
    • i think your fears may be more irrational fears of any change.deathboy
    • Very rational. I have addressed all of your questions in my side notes of you look back. Private is bad because of private interest and private is bad....scruffics
    • ...because America is already obsessed with money more than is healthy and putting $ signs over kids’ head won’t do anyone any good. Charity would most...scruffics
    • ... without a doubt bring more religion in - those kiddy-loving creeps have more money than sense n prey on the poor. Remember, we want more critical thinking..scruffics
