    ugh..

so been working 1 day a week at a local council the past 18 months.. the past couple my job was to organise a big mural for the side of the facility where I work, which I did..
just before easter we had the final site visit with the artist and the WHS people to make sure everything was kosher.. after that meeting my boss tells me council have just been told to let all the casuals go.. which is me..

but he said is fighting to keep me as without me all the other people in our department can't do online delivery of services..

    so win..

he then tells me to get the mural started asap.. even tho he also just told me he cant pay me anymore.

so mural goes ahead, I go down daily on my own accord to film and document the process, both for myself but also in anticipation that once they see it finished they will want this (my job is do to social media video content)

anyway, 5 days later and over 100gb of data, still no word on my job being saved or not, but they are getting so much positive feedback about the mural they want to put out a media release..

I have proper press photos taken from up the cherry picker, wide angle, awesome photos.. but I am stuck in the sense that if I give them to be used and they don't sort out the work, I just did all that work for free.. but if I dont give it to them, they will use their shitty iPhone photos taken from the ground..

I know I went down there on my own volition to document this process, but that shouldn't mean they get to use it without paying..

same thing with the video.. im stuck in the sense if they dont come to the table and pay me to make it, I either dont make it (bad for artist, bad for my own portfolio) or I make it my on my own and accept they will just repost it ..

it sucks.. as I know my boss is trying to keep me, but I am also feeling that if I just give them everything, I am just getting shafted twice.

    blah

    • shit.. sorry, didn't realise it was that longautoflavour
    • do it for yourself anyway. it's bad enough not getting paid, don't let them take the satisfaction from you as well.hans_glib
    • ahjwe you are too benign. money matters should always be clarified at the beginning, no matter what happens you need guarantees that work will be compensated.sted
    • money matters should always be clarified at the beginning, neverscared
    • Tough call but I say work with them with they photos/video you've produced.stoplying
    • yeah normally I would have clarified, but as it was a regular weekly thing and we were kind in this limbo where I hadn't properly let go as he was still fightinautoflavour
    • for me it would've been weird to start talking extra money.. got a call today, I am now the only essential casual staff member in the organisation.autoflavour
    • and I get more days.. so.. win win?autoflavour
    • Good to hear autoflavour, while they may repost if you post on youtube/facebook/twi... at least you would get some word out there that it is you doing the workNutter
    • so possibly others could find you, and hopefully hire you to do work for them. I guess you always got to promote yourself in the long run.Nutter
