i think it's worth it. you're in an environment where you can just concentrate on creating. i'm sick and tired of my job, designing more and more useless functionality for sites.
one good thing is that when you get out, your value as a designer rises, giving you more credibility. people will start listening to you more about the importance of the user experience, which i think is missing in today's commercial world.
I'm only 23 and i know my boss sometimes does not make well thought out decisions...they just don't know the value of R & D, therefore they don't invest in it. They waste more resources on revising.
