OK, I've gone full wackjob! Couldn't decide if this should go in Prediction of the day or Conspiracy of the day so here we go. DISCLAIMER just a theory to pass the time in lock down!

The coronavirus has been spreading undetected since before early November 2019 and a large proportion of us are already immune. Like swine flu and other pandemics it went undetected for months because it 'replaced' the flu in winter deaths... It has a far lower R0 than currently modelled and its transmission has increased to pandemic levels as a result of stress reducing the immune response of an otherwise healthy population.

I'm not saying if you're not stressed you wont get it. I'm not saying the virus is psychosomatic. I'm saying that the collective stress of a populous caused by the news of the virus weakens its defence to create the conditions for the virus to spread more easily leading to exponential growth.

A summery of factors of the chronic stress shitscape:

Initial panic caused by it's discovery and concealment of multiple deaths in China to Covid-19, these deaths would have been otherwise attributed to flu virus but heavy-handed measures to cover up the attribution to a new virus, to isolate and quarantine communities closure of businesses and further unemployment causing chronic stress to the people of Wuhan. ARRRGH CHINA!

Initial reporting of the 'China virus' in international media. xenophobic reaction, ARRRGH BATS!

Attribution to localised global outbreaks amongst venerable patients worldwide and sensationalist reporting in the media and social media. ARRRGH ITS COMING TO GET YOU!

The human inability to understand exponential growth and availability of charts and data online. ARRGGH NUMBERS!

    Panic buying ARRRGH TOILET ROLL!

    Isolation ARRRGH MY WIFE!

Unemployment ARRRGH MY THING I DID TO GET AWAY FROM MY WIFE!

As well as stress accelerating infection rates other social factors contribute massively to the sudden increase...

Attribution: Sick patients go to hospital believing they have coronavirus rather than staying at home to suffer through or die suddenly. Tests are conducted on admission to hospital and deaths that were being attributed to respiratory conditions, flu, colds, heart failure are correctly attributed to covid-19. Someone was saying a couple days ago how the fact that only 1:10 people going to hospital with symptoms were found to have the virus - like that's proof that a load of us haven't already had it - to me it's proof of the levels of stress and psychosomatic illness in the community.

Overloading of healthcare systems, obviously many people die unnecessarily because of this... but healthcare workers are the most stressed people in the world right now, and the most likely to carry coronavirus. If you're over 80 and have an underlying condition - you can't live with them and you cant live without them!

Stress and lack of sleep are huge factors in all the systems of your body we created the perfect conditions for a stress epidemic, coronavirus is just along for the ride.

    • well here's a little song I wrote,
ya might want to sing it
      not for note...
      _niko
    • ha, nice write up. so those spring break kids weren't dumb as rocks, just playing it cool to trick the virus.Fax_Benson
    • Errrshapesalad
    • Haha, when's trump reopening flights to Florida?kingsteven
    • Just read this twitter thread, you're not far from the truth: https://twitter.com/…grafician
    • "irresponsible speculation: i wonder if the 30-year-olds dying with no comorbidities actually do have comorbidities that are just hard to detect, along the linegrafician
    • "along the lines of impaired lung / immune function due to e.g. depression, anxiety, trauma" 2/2grafician
    • ALSO OFC FEAR LOWERS YOUR FUCKING IQ - that's why we see so much stupidity around these daysgrafician
    • heh, well there's a reason i posted it on here but not on twitter :D but yeah you just have to look at the relationships between mental health and heart diseasekingsteven
    • diabetes, cancer, life expectancy to see how closely mental and physical health are related. i'm talking here in more general terms on how mass stresskingsteven
    • could potentially lower immunity to let a pandemic occur, did anyone look in to correlation between media connectivity and spread? we've had viruses beforekingsteven
    • but in the history of humanity we've never had mass panic, lockdown and unemployment. we know stress and immunity are linked, but how linked?kingsteven
    • this one is for the booksgrafician
    • Ok, Imma fucking read this fucking LONG post, ok? Brb.maquito
    • the collective stress of a populous caused by the news of the virus weakens its defence to create the conditions for the virus to spread more easily...maquito
    • Are you serious, PROFESSOR kingsteven?... come on man.maquito
    • I really enjoy your posts, but this one...maquito
    • So is it a “stress related virus” now? Is it stress what affects your patiens’ immune systems or the fucking genetic of the virus itself?maquito
    • hah maquito, an attempt to add weight to the theory that the virus has been around for months but has become more transferable due to the reporting and measureskingsteven
    • to stem its spread stressing everyone (stress lowers your immunity, so if an entire country is stressed, it makes sense that a virus would infect/ spread more)kingsteven
    • but the virus is just a virus. the pandemic is stress. i think its a valid theory, but would love to be proved wrong.kingsteven
    • You’re wrong. No proof required. This kind of whack job idea has no place right now. Not while literally all the best people on the planet are on this.monospaced
    • ha, we'll see mono. the situation is unprecedented. if a small difference in social distancing can make a big difference so can immune levels through stresskingsteven
    • what we're doing now (well, in the rest of the world) is still the best option for ensuring treatment.kingsteven
    • there are studies that show that viruses spread between students more during exam time. why not whole communities?kingsteven
    • because they're not in schools and exam rooms and study sessions with teh community, derpmonospaced
