Situation today in Romania (not very important overall, ik, but!):

    433 confirmed
    66 new cases
    64 cured
2 deaths (both men, over 60, one had terminal cancer, the other died due to complication from other chronic disease)
5000+ tested so far, with many thousands more in the following weeks (waiting for 1 mil. test kits from South Korea)

I calculated the percent dead: 0.43%

All this after 25 days since this started in our country.
Population currently around 16 million inside the country.
    Complete lockdown starting tomorrow.

These numbers per 1000 of people, seems to be the norm I've read in many articles claiming that the infection will spread to 50% of the population but kill under 1% - if we reduce de R0 to 1 from 2.5% right now

So if you're in a country that just sees their first confirmed numbers, just start locking everything down - borders first, then any shops/malls/pubs, then keep everybody inside for at least 1 month no exception, then start testing everybody - you will definitely curb this in under a 1 month if you start now!

    • everywhere is important. One country not taking serious measures have the potential to keep infecting others.Beeswax
    • In comparison Turkey banned only 65+ from going outside, the rest is still outside. Iran border is still open thousands walking through the border into Turkey.Beeswax
    • There's not enough masks in the hospitals, but you can find internet sellers asking for x10, there's no gov crack down on them yet.Beeswax
    • One advantage is that number of ICU beds in Turkey is one of the highest in the world. But that is not enough on its own.Beeswax
    • ^ there’s a reasonable argument to be made to quarantine the old while the rest develop immunity.Gnash
    • @Bee @Gnash yes, I think this is their decision - but at least close the borders, so you don't "import" other cases

    • In Italy it's 80% if all dead are men.
      87% are over 70 yo.
99% have some kind of illness from before.
