It's strange that (at least, as far as I know) no one's bothered to come out with an authoring tool that mimics the creative-functionalitty of Flash, but outputting to HTML5, etc.

Heck, even if it required some sort of small additional webassembly package or compiled JQuery-a-like library, it'd still be 'legit' and non-lock in.

Flash is one thing, the SWFs it ouput, something else.

it strikes me that the creativity came from the tool, not the output (if you see what I mean. I perhaps need more tea).

    • Oh. It even says as much in the above article I didn't actually read: "It praises the use of Flash as a creative tool, rather than a bloated malware vessel"Nairn
    • You can accomplish a lot of motion w/js and svg (and jpgs / pngs of course)... gifs looks like shit and are ridiculously big so avoid that nonsensePonyBoy
    • If you're really interested in giving it a shot I advise burying yourself in GSAP... it's actually fairly simple to grasp if you can handle JS:PonyBoy

    • It's very 'by hand' in terms of just writing raw code... but at the same time it's not that taxing to learn if you've ever used a tweening enginePonyBoy
    • Unity 2D is probably the closest thing to Flash.section_014
    • It does still, outputs to canvas rather than swf. Plenty of wanna-bes for html elements like divs and stuff but they all suck (gsap at that point).fyoucher1
