    • it's simpler than you think. Add up the 4 CMYK values and the total should not exceed 220. so, 40c40m40y100K = 220 total inkGnash
    • so if you make a colour in InDesign make sure the totals are more than that.Gnash
    • newsprint is an ink sponge - over that 220 limit and clots start to get muddyGnash
    • after you make the PDF, acrobat has an "Output Preview" option with various settings and warning indicators once you set parameters like Ink limitGnash
    • so review the PDF with that and it should highlight trouble spotsGnash
