It sucks.. me 8 year old is obsessed with the switch, so much so we decided to have a device free December.. in the last 2 weeks his whole attitude has improved, he isn't as depressed and generally is his old cheery self..
but as a parent who also was obsessed with Nintendo as a kid his age, I understand him feeling like us being the bad guy for taking it away..
we told him it would be back by Christmas.. but I am afraid he will just go back to be obsessed by it again, especially given one of his presents is the new Pokemon game.
tldr parenting is hard

you did the right thing, he'll remember this for the rest of his life ... and he'll respect you for itmonospaced - limiting time in front of screens = good parenting.inteliboy
- Pokemon Game? Remember EL-P!oey
- you reacted to a problem. Thats good parenting in my books. I banned my kid from his DS this week for this week.mugwart
- I told him why I was doing so and told him what he needed to do to fix this. He understands. Kids are smarter these days it feels.mugwart
- My friends limit screen time through the week to homework only. Computers and consoles are for the weekend. It works well for the boys.microkorg
- We do the same, limited TV/screens in the week - games & consoles at weekends onlydee-dubs
- find a way to show him his progress while being device free and teach him to be responsible with his consume himself :-)mekk
- actually you have a great basis now that he is two weeks in already without having a major breakdown. My cousin would have smashed something without fortnitemekk
- since the summer i have stopped my two sons watching/accessing youtube ... has made a big differenceBluejam
- ^ thankfully my 2 haven't yet got the youtube bug but I know a lot of parents whose kids would spend every waking minute on youtube if they coulddee-dubs
- Yeah he plays 3 hours a week.. thursdays and the weekend.. so it’s not heaps as it is.. but he fixates so hard when he isn’t playing and constantly asking forautoflavour
- Time.. then he ends up trying to watch YouTube to watch stampycat and dantdm.. and he is fixated on fortnite .. even tho he isn’t allowed to playautoflavour
- Use this time wisely: beat Zelda.monospaced
- Switch comes with great parental controls, like time limits: https://en-americas-…Crack_Junkie
- Stay Strong amigo. Make him read books, clean house, do push ups for screen time.stoplying
- I'm on the screen on weekends only team.
If you cut him cold turkey he will go back to his old ways once you change the system.soundofreason - He needs to learn there's a viable way to live without a screen. Let him see the best of both worlds.
Life finds a way.soundofreason - A friendly reminder:
