I don't do this often because there's so many homeless in LA and NY and I can't be a bleeding heart helping them all when I have to help myself and my own family. It's going to be a tight holiday for my fam. My roommate lost his job and I'm looking for a new gig, too. We may have to move in a really inopportune time.

After leaving a writers group in Hollywood this afternoon, this man called out to the group of us walking by for lunch, "Water!" He sounded like he was just emerging from a desert. We did walk a block away for lunch but it was an uncomfortable lunch after hearing that. t I couldn't get it out of my head, that one stuck with me. He didn't ask for money or even food. He asked for water. On our walk back, we all carried cups of water from the restaurant and set it by him and then we walked into the nearby CVS and bought more water in bottles, gator aid, tuna in tabbed open cans, pita chips and peanut free energy bars. I had a few more random things in my car I knew I wasn't going to eat -- 2 granola bars and an unopened bottle of water. We all put it in a bag and left it by the man. I think all in all he ended up with at least a few days of nonperishable food.

There was something about a man just asking for water because he was too far gone to be allowed into a business for a free cup of water anybody else could get that really hit me hard. We should all have those kinds of basics. smh

    • They're clearing out tent communities near my home. But where do they expect them to go? There is a bigger problem that needs to be fixed.shellie
    • I left cali, came back and its exponentially worse. I dont think homelessness can be 100% solved but this is a terrifying trend.shellie
    • Bring me food too. I get hungry and thirsty.imbecile
