    Thoughts on VAR?

    • for points of objective fact - was it over the line? - it's good. For subjective decisions like was it a foul?, it simply moved the decision from one fallibleFax_Benson
    • human to another. The drama that's created has been fun though.Fax_Benson
    • too many penalties for my taste. it seems like an attempt to make football a "higher scoring" game.renderedred
    • the main problem with it is that the super-slo-mo replays distort the action so as to not really resemble the original incident.Fax_Benson
    • and for all the other imponderables like intent, premeditation...VAR is no real improvement on 1 referee on a pitch.Fax_Benson
    • I'm torn like everyone TBH. I actually think that each team should get 4 VAR decisions per game. Like Tennis or cricket.Hayzilla
    • If a team feels strongly that they were hard done by in a decision they can use one of their appeals. Would stop the constant crowding of the ref too.Hayzilla
    • yah, it puts great pressure on defense players.renderedred
    • Until VAR can be seen and integrated with the on-field referee more seamlessly I think it's current form breaks up the flow of the game too muchIanbolton
    • And I watch football for the beautiful flow and skill of individual players and teamsIanbolton
    • love it, also negates corrupt referees to a degree...which in this Russian world cup is a must lol_niko
    • I think that's probably a good way to go with it, Hayzillaset
    • Agreed, Hayzilla. Once a team uses up their VAR requests, that's it. Then they have to trust the referee.Continuity
    • niko, refs don't have anything to do with Russia, they're assigned by FIFA. Currupt/biased refs such as Felix Brych can still choose to ignore VAR altogetherMilan
    • I know but there's nothing stopping the Russians from getting to the refs while they're there. Oh and didn't know it was their call to check it or not_niko
    • I like Hayzilla’s idea. But it’s an extension of the ref; you like/dislike its decision depending on your loyalties.MrT
