If i was you i'd go for video, and gradually incorporate 3D as you need to.
You can buy a DV camera and start using Premiere and AE making little music videos + films etc. If you've never ever done any 3d work it might be a bit scary and take a while to get anything good going, which means you could lose your keen momentum.
