Shellie, why don't you check out AIGA or some sort of org? I hear the LA chapter is pretty good.
I have found some support from my peers there and also get alot from guest speakers and events...like tonight, for example, Michael Vanderbyl is speaking here.
Also, find some designers you respect, look up too and contact them. I emailed Stefan Sagmeister once when I was very discouraged and he emailed me back an awesome, inspiring email. Reach out, girl!
