Lots of used spares are still available. There are companies that do sell new replacement parts URO (rubber not as good as Mercedes' but 1/5 of the price), Meyle, Bilstein, Febi, Lemfoerder. Lots of new after-markets parts are also available from Turkey on ebay (LONG wait as it takes a month for parts to get to US).

The biggest thing to remember is that you WILL spend a ton of time working on your car and you will invest a lot in tools to do so. A garage is almost a must. Moreover many mechanics don't understand old technology (carburetors) anymore so you WILL have to pick up books to learn yourself.

On the other hand as it was my first car ever and i wanted to learn - it was a great experience as without any computers you can figure out how the mechanics function. Unfortunately around 70-80% of content is various forums is wrong so you will have to get your hands dirty to often figure out on your own what needs to get done (people just like to type shit at various forums without concern how wrong they are).

    • Wow. Sounds like a big undertaking. Best of luck with it. It's a great looking car.CyBrainX
