Our house shopping continues. Found a place that was just listed that we toured last night, and whoa... some agents and sellers are criminally insane to consider the listing price they do for places that need complete gut-rehabs to make livable. This place has not been updated since the 50s and has not been taken care of well. They're asking $549K which is absolutely ludicrous. It needs between $350K and $400K worth of work to it, based on a similar home with same floorpan and size. Comparable pre-rehab homes in the area sold for under $300K. These people are out of their minds. Hoping to put in a completely low ball offer, even just for the amusement of it, and hoping our agent can impress upon them that nobody is going to buy it at that price if they have to renovate it. It's in a trust, and paid off, and I'm guessing somebody's kids are selling it and thinking they're going to make bank off of it.

    • you looking in chi. or outer burbs? i'd imagine prices are high because it's such a sellers market. so much money for so little :\lvl_13
    • Suburbs. The house we wanted a few months ago that had the same layout, sold for $250K in 2013 pre-renovation. Def a sellers market, but these people are nuts.mg33
