    One of the greatest songs of all time "house of the rising sun" made famous by the animals has no author. It was played by tons of musicians and nobody ever got credit for it.

    I think when Zeppelin started out they were exposed to old time american blues, some songs were traditional songs passed down from musician to musician as well, and perhaps there was nothing in place to let them cross-reference ownership.

    They definitely put their own spin on things though, heavily borrowed or not.

    And I think they did credit Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon ect as sonwriters
