I think if you use 3d Stroke from Trapcode, it allows you to choose a gradient along the path, or at least a start and end color.

Or you could just import you AI file, then duplicate the layer that has the stroke, and then converting one of them using "Convert Shapes from vector layer", it will loose the gradient, but you get the path. Then, you just use the new shape layer as a mask for the original layer you duplicated in the beginning, so you can have your original art and have a working path that you can trim or do whatever.

    • What I originally had was a series of shape layers and I used valueAtTime to offset the movement of start and end points but I was hoping to simplify my comp.CyBrainX
    • In my case, the path is just a circle. I looked into Trapcode 3D Stroke but didn't see gradient options, just alpha. I'm working with 4 colors.CyBrainX
    • well, if its a circle, theres an type of radial gradient (not the concentric circles, but the one that looks like a clock) that way you can phase it in a circlefeel
    • Where does that exist? I couldn't find it.CyBrainX
    • actually no, theres no gradient like this hehe, but you can import one from photoshop and use it masked to your pathfeel
