    there's two main concepts in the movie...1) Reality vs. fantasy (including dreams and nightmares) 2) How hollywood, tv, and movies distort our realities and fantasies to the point where a lot of people don't know the difference.

    About half of the movie is one character's vision/fantasy of what could have been or what will be...in other words, their fantasy. Like a dream parts of the movie throw in symbolic characters and real-life characters that would only intersect in our dreams. For example, at the dinner party there are a lot of random people walking around (like the guy with the cowboy hat) that were introduced earlier in the movie. Their random appearance is testament to how our dreams often work, where people that we know, that don't necessarily know about the other people we know, come together. does that make sense?

    anyhow, it's been a while since i've seen it and that's my short version of the whole thing...but it's definitely worth seeing a few times.
