i'm still not baseline so this is gonna ramble a bit.
this was a solid year. i saw only one gnat, which had passed out in my whiskey, but did endure dust storms the likes of which i hadn't seen in 6 years. found out my placement grants access to free electricity so i brought a water cooler so i have ice water on hand at all times and an air conditioner which i used to keep my van cool for naps during the day. little luxuries like that make a big difference out there.
i enjoyed cruising around on my trike until it finally fell apart but as it did i learned how to make my next one better (i'm designing a new one from the ground up using a better welder/materials). also managed to break my homemade LED controller. still haven't investigated how but fortunately had replacements ready. the playa will eat all your gear for breakfast and you may never know how. i somehow managed to get through it without breaking my notebook or projector though...
lately my experience has turned toward more of an artist/managerial role than a participatory one as i grow and continue to develop my camp, which had 23 members this year.
now i'm having to think about things like how to get rid of dorky freeloaders who have been "grandfathered in" to our camp by virtue of simply being present with us every year, how to fund some bigger projects i have in mind (do i start charging dues in exchange for our prime location and access to power? host fundraiser parties in the desert somewhere? do a kickstarter?)
i hung out with bliznutty a couple times. he's a cool dude who adapted to the place really quickly. wish i had spent more time with the guy but i always seemed to be coming up on something or couldn't find him at his camp.
i hosted a couple live shows (beatmakers, not just DJs) accompanied by projected visuals, threw a bunch of parties, flogged some people on our giant flaming steel bondage heart, learned how to crack a whip, unveiled our new chakra shot machine, "head box", suspension rack and some other kinky shit, gave out a couple hundred stickers, met up with some old friends and made some new ones.
i never really take any photos but when they start appearing from my friends i'll post a couple :)
