"a right you can exercise with impunity without a license. the argument that you are begging the state is for a right is backwards and contrary to being free." -yurimon

Yes, sure... a gay couple CAN exercise the action of getting married without a license. Yes, they can stand in front of a priest and say their vows (or however they want to do it). BUT, this gay couple will not be legally eligible for all the legal benefits that come with being married. Benefits: http://www.nolo.com/legal-encycl…
They can't file for taxes together. Well, they CAN file them, but the taxes will not be accepted (not until this latest Supreme Court ruling happened). So the gay couple can be married in their own minds, yet at the same time not receive the full benefits... and that to yurimon is still "being free"??? LOL.
So that's the point. They're fighting for the equal and full benefits that straight couples get. Is that too hard for you to understand?
You can call it "begging the government" in your own mind. But we the people are the government. We elect those people. And if we try hard enough, we can change the laws as our society progresses. That's how a civilized nation works. It's not begging, it's society realizing a change needs to happen, and then coming together to put laws in place to prevent others from being discriminated against in the future. Otherwise, we'd still be burning witches.
- Tell me how free you are filing taxes on your labor that you own. explain to me please this freedom.yurimon
- let me know how your election process has been working out for you.
change!, change!yurimon - LOL. That fact that a Democratic SOCIALIST is seriously challenging for the White House shows exactly how things can change in this country given enough time.iCanHazQBN
- And I gladly pay for taxes on my labor, for the sake of a healthier overall society.iCanHazQBN
- tell me how the war on drugs is going for you. how safe everyone is in their nice cozy cell for victimless crime... change!yurimon
- nobody is disputing or advocating discrimination. here. its sad that before people fought to be independent, moral and private without interference of a king oryurimon
- Eh? It's pretty much the liberals who want to end the "war on drugs". We want to shut down a bunch of private prisons.iCanHazQBN
- gov, now people equate trying these benefits as freedom, by integrating into a corrupt system that has subverted you into a virtue. knock yourself out.yurimon
- You wanna be "independent & private"? Fine, live in the middle of nowhere and grow your own food and never interact with the millions of people in your country.iCanHazQBN
- hows your tax $ bombing children with drones working on your conscious. im sure you are fine cause no blood on your hands?yurimon
- If you think you can have a country with 300M people in it without any rules, laws, or structure... you're insane. You're basically asking for anarchy 24/7.iCanHazQBN
- You're talking to a liberal here. Why on Earth would you assume that I support using exorbitant amounts of tax money for unjustified wars??????iCanHazQBN
- yuri is right about the income tax being constitutionally unfounded though. and yes, end the war on inanimate objects, such a farce to begin with********
- You think freedom is easy? its hard, you have to strive to be a better person. this country was chance for the individual to be king. has it failed? prob.yurimon
- you can be a child of the state, with rules and benefits. you can say the multiple choice of channels, products, ass to be had as freedom. just leave it at thatyurimon
- If individuals are kings, they rich will use the poor as slaves, and only the rich are free.iCanHazQBN
- In this capitalistic nation, there's no law for paid vacation time. An employer (an "individual king") isn't obligated to give an employee any vacation time.iCanHazQBN
- there is several systems in play here if you want to understand jurisdiction. ucc law and maritime law. common law. you have to know whats the difference?yurimon
- In more progressive nations, there are laws that guarantee an employee paid vacation time... to prevent people from turning into slaves working for the rich.iCanHazQBN
- So one can say that having more government can actually allow more freedom than NOT having a government.iCanHazQBN
- For whats its worth. with all these rules and laws, isnt the environment fuckd? shouldn't we be in some sort of paradise? or are you going to say there arentyurimon
- enough laws? you going to blame the right? if only we ban hate? come one dude wake up already. does this sound real to you?yurimon
- by your logic, we have more laws and agencies, benefits, and debt we have ever had. the size of gov is huge. 30% of the economy and growing. by your logicyurimon
- and voting cause we are the gov, we should be in a fuckn utopia right now.yurimon
- You act like I'm saying "if only gays had equal rights, then everything will be perfect". I'm not. That's ludacris. It's just one of thousands of issues.iCanHazQBN
- We have massive debts because of wars that the Right started and Wall St. corruption that the Right refused to regulate.iCanHazQBN
- This conversation is diverting off-topic, and I'm really not looking forward to discussing this in tiny side notes.iCanHazQBN
- everything is linked to not just how we live or act in individual capacity but also as a society, we are to divided as a people over trivial shit. its alsoyurimon
- to our financial system. what we have now has been warned to us 200 years ago. its nothing new, just repeat of history and we have been mind fucked out ofyurimon
- reality, were we as a group cant come up with solutions on our own. thats what i see in the general public. will we over come this corruption and take over?yurimon
- hope so. it might get worse before better, if we cant get back to certain fundamentals that work and sustain great civilizations. by great i dont mean we haveyurimon
- ipads, just the balance we require as people to be healthy, happy strong. thrive best we can.yurimon
- We need a thread for discussing big vs little government, the convo always goes back to that********
