  - how old is your iMac? is it up to date with all OS updates?

  - how old is your router? is it a G router? You might need to upgrade to N

  - how far are you from your wifi router? The above might help or move closer.

  - have you deleted the network preferences?

  - go into keychain and delete your wifi password and profiles you see there, re-set up.

  - do you have other items that are wireless interfering? Microwave, phone etc?
