Soccer is all fake. Players diving and pretending to be hurt... players wasting time... entire outcomes determined by the bad calls of referees. There's no reliability or consistency. We might as well pick the winner out of a hat.
I thought I could like this sport and I watched almost every game of this World Cup, but I've decided that I don't like it. And I don't see why the entire world likes it so much, when often times acting ability becomes more of a deciding factor than athleticism.
Imagine if the referee had made the correct call when Robben committed that foul/penalty against Costa Rica. Costa Rica should've been given a penalty kick, and they'd probably be in the semifinals now.
Why not enforce strict rules as a deterrent? If you're blatantly caught diving on camera, you're suspended for three games. Why can't it be that simple? The NBA has a 10 second violation rule where the player has to get the ball across the half-court line within 10 seconds of inbounding it. Why not have a similar rule in soccer to deter players from wasting time?
After EVERY game all we hear are stories of Player X diving, and Referee X making a bad call, and other reasons unrelated to athleticism for why a team lost. Aren't people sick of using these reasons?
I used to have respect for soccer, but it's really difficult to watch it while trying to convince yourself that the winner is truly the winner.
Soccer is really fun to play though.
