as an outsider living in Canada, I keep reading this thread with a growing sense of astonishment.
I can't honestly fathom the idea of living in a country/society that views guns as so important.

I can see from reading the posts, that some of you are kinda for it....and others feel it's just as insane as i do.

for those of you that think it's nuts....do you ever get the feeling your country is changing so much, or going in such a ridiculous direction that it 'may' be time to consider getting the fuck out?

i don't mean that to sound offensive at all...serious...

it's just with two young kids of my own, i have to think at some point i'd be questioning how great a place it is with folks that think their right to have guns is more important than mine to raise a family in a place essentially WITHOUT them....

    i dunno....maybe i'm wrong...

    • Every day, sadly.hereswhatidid
    • its the principle. Open carry in public space should be a local vote, and not regulated by federal level.
      ********
    • and why is that?hereswhatidid
    • Look up state vs federal powers. Its long. The short and skinny is absolute power corrupts and why fed shouldnt call all shots
      ********
    • that's a slippery slope which assumes the states won't abuse the power themselveshereswhatidid
    • also if allowed in one state and was problematic woudl others adapt it? Think of it as freemarket law making
      ********
    • however anything done at a federal level, their is no competition to see if good or bad. And politicains will always try to find soem dumb idea to run on. soem new and improved benefit of regualtion
      ********
    • this approach is what's rapidly eroding any gun control currently in place. each state is racing to the least regulationhereswhatidid
    • find somr new and improved regulation to run on making things "better". if u default out to federal all the time u will be fucked
      ********
    • if the states are all giving up regulations than the people of those states want it, and they feel there is no harm.
      ********
    • any harm perceived must be a misconception outside the states own voting populace. but i dont think most states are repealing regualtions
      ********
    • repealing regulations
      ********
    • really? a majority of states feel that gun regulations should be relaxed?hereswhatidid
    • because that's what's happening every single day right nowhereswhatidid
    • I thought you said a majority of states were repealing. I have no idea on the statistics, but if they are its going democratically. The way it should at state level
      ********
    • democratically. Why should a person in AK have a say in CA gun control. Or vice versa. Really its a local issue.
      ********
    • if the majority of citizens in a state decide they dont like what the elected offical did with gun laws his competitor will win next election.
      ********
    • that's exactly why we don't have a simple majority rules government. What if a majority in a state decide atheism is illegal?hereswhatidid
    • illegal? just uphold that?hereswhatidid
    • well yea we are a republic.... there is bill of rights and constitutional powers protecting from big shenanigans like that
      ********
    • right to carry is gray area because really it doesn't infringe on anyone else rights, but doe sit do more harm than good
      ********
    • good. I can see for small towns in alaska or rural stuff no problems in carrying a gun. in a SF carrying a gun just asks for trouble. Its dumb.
      ********
    • trouble. But that grey area will need to be decided by the states elected officials and let the peopel decide voting wether they chose right
      ********
    • if you let the people decide, how do you ensure that a large enough sample of voters is found?hereswhatidid
    • I can't ensure it. Don't think anyone can.
      ********
    • exador1 send for me.ohhhhhsnap
    • hahaha :)exador1
