I'd love to see ONE state ban guns in some manner. (Either law-enforcement-only, or special-forces-only, or a complete ban.)
They'd need a bit more security on their border, but not that much.
The first benefit is they could act as a safe haven for Americans who are sick of this bullshit. They could say, "Hey, Americans, we're the state that banned guns. If you don't want to be gunned down by your fellow American, you can move here."
The second and larger benefit is that all the bullshit that gun lobbyists spit about "government take over" and "just in case we need them" and "what about home invasions" would be proven to be untrue. In a couple years we'd have statistical evidence showing a lower crime rate, less violent crime, less people going to prison, and far less murdered children. The gun lobby would adjust their argument, of course, but at least much of their "you should be very very afraid at all times" argument would be gone.
I'd bet other states would follow suit, and quickly. Similar to what will happen with marijuana legalization.
- It'd be difficult because the other states (and the NRA) would lobby that it's unconstitutional.********
- You'd have Texas and Arizona and all those fuckers arguing that states shouldn't be allowed to do whatever they want. Lulz.********

- well, the fact that there's the 2nd amendment keeps states from doing that pretty effectively.sarahfailin
- Yes, but the supreme court interprets the constitution. Some gun control exists, so my idea could potentially fit within the 2nd amendment********
- It'd be a SUPER difficult battle. But, it's also time for America to realize that the constitution was designed to allow for amendments.********
- I still haven't heard any actual reason why we can't ban high capacity magazineshereswhatidid
- amendments. There is nothing stopping the supreme court from allowing one state to place strict controls on guns.********
- nobody would ever be violent of harm one another if guns didn't existJG_LB
- JGLB: While your sentence didn't make any sense, I assume you're making the argument that people would still be victims of violence.********
- ...violence. And ZOMG THAT IS A STUPID FUCKING ARGUMENT.********
