Hi Louno.
FYI, you'll be working in full colour if it's for a magazine i expect. Full colour is four colours Cyan Magenta Yellow and bLACK (CMYK).
You've got it right about the layout. Do your graphics in PS nad then import them into Illustrator. Your fonts will come out lovely. I do a lot of magazine ads and the standard in the UK is has become PDF.Ask the mag for their technical specifications, hand terms
Bleed= extra colour or image that goes over the edge of your artborad. Usually 3mm on each side.
-----------------------
Trim = the actual size of the page. EG, A4's trim size is 210mm 297mm
----------------------
Type = not always stated but some mags don't want the text up to the edges of the Trim size, because sometimes it doesn't come out right.
--------------------
Gutter = Is the side of the page next to the spine of the mag. Thick mags like Cosmopolition are thick so you don't want important text slipping into the crease of the spine.
Sorry if you know all this, but i wish i had when i stared doing print work.
