    I would definitely avoid driving after dark so plan accordingly. leave at sunrise, it's a looong drive up the coast with stunning desert views, some fishing villages for the best fish and seafood of your life and beautiful ocean views. i've heard of bahia de los angeles which is gorgeous. found this:

    also, do you speak any spanish? a little will take you a long way. even though most people will know some english, they will appreciate you trying to speak the language even if it's just some basic stuff. simple rules apply, please and thank you... porfavor and gracias will get you things faster. :)

    don't worry too much about the cops, if you are stopped by any chance, you're not caring guns or drugs, you're fine. like with any cop, yes sir and no sir your way through it. they are the law. you're fine. have fun!
